There were two team leaders in a high school class. Each one had the freedom to pick three helpers. Whomever they chose would help them plant the more fruitful garden.
Team leader A scouted out the prospects and picked Billy, the jock; Steven, the nerd; and Lily, the influencer. Leader A thought that each person, according to their use, would be an asset to the project.
Team Leader B recognized those who were left weren’t obvious choices like the ones Leader A had picked. Leader B took her time studying each face, seeing beyond their capabilities to who they really were. She picked Willa, the eager one who loved to learn; Roger, the one who was always a helpful partner; and Angel, the one who loved to teach her love for plants.
Confident they would win the contest, Team Leader A was soon dismayed because Billy only did the hard work when others were looking; Steven experimented with Roundup; and Lily was always scrolling on her phone.
With a vision, communication, and strategy in hand, Team B flourished and won. Each person encouraged each other to create meaning beyond the project.
You are the leader and have been gifted the privilege of creating a garden in your love life, business/work life, parenting life, and social life.
Let us be careful and wise in who we pick to weed, plant, and tend to the garden we want to create.
